Synopsis

The Last Mortal Bond concludes the Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne as the Annurian Empire faces collapse under a two-front war, battered by the nomadic Urghul and undermined by uncertain and contested leadership. Adare, positioned amid active battle, works to claim and hold the imperial throne while struggling to repel invading forces, while her brother Kaden, the legitimate heir, would accept a diminished form of rule to preserve his people and finds himself confronted by dangers beyond simple warfare. A dark secret is uncovered about the empire's brilliant general Ran il Tornja, tied to an ancient race that once sought humanity's destruction, and gods walking the earth in human form pursue their own unclear purposes, leaving the empire's fate resting on choices its rulers are only beginning to understand.
