Synopsis

The Providence of Fire, the second novel of the Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne, finds the Annurian Empire under mounting strain as conspiracies against the ruling family deepen, barbarian hordes threaten invasion, and imperial forces are stretched thin defending the realm's distant frontiers. Adare, having identified her father's killer, flees the palace in search of allies and finds herself unexpectedly embraced as the chosen vessel of the people's goddess after surviving a trial by fire, gaining a following as she works to rally support for the embattled empire. Her brother Valyn has become entangled with forces gathering along Annur's borders in ways that may set him against his own family, while their brother Kaden, the rightful heir, infiltrates the capital accompanied by two mysterious companions, his next move carrying the potential to either save the empire or bring about its ruin.
