Synopsis
This is Terry Brooks's first short-fiction collection, gathering eleven stories written across more than four decades. The tales range across his three major fantasy worlds, Shannara, the Magic Kingdom of Landover, and The Word and the Void, revisiting familiar characters and settings, including glimpses of Garet Jax's childhood and one of Allanon's quests, alongside new adventures set in those same universes.
Where it sits
- Universe: Shannara
- Series: not part of a registered series (standalone work within its universe)
- Author: Terry Brooks
Notes
- Collects Brooks' Shannara short fiction spanning the whole saga's timeline: "Imaginary Friends" (1991), "Indomitable" (2003, novella, first in the anthology Legends II, NOT Star Wars-related, corrects a common conflation with Brooks' separate Episode I novelization), "Allanon's Quest" (2012), "The Weapons Master's Choice" (2013), "The Black Irix" (2013), "Warrior" (2018), "Aftermath" (2021), "The Last Ride" (2021).
Neighbouring works
Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within Shannara (standalone work): position 34 of 34: previous The Last Druid (2020)
