Synopsis

Elisabeth Scrivener has grown up as a foundling within one of the Great Libraries of Austermeer, vast repositories that house magical grimoires capable of transforming into dangerous, monstrous creatures if they are mishandled or abused. Raised from childhood to believe that sorcerers are inherently corrupt and untrustworthy, Elisabeth has trained to become a librarian sworn to protect these volumes from misuse. Her convictions are upended when an act of sabotage releases the library's most dangerous grimoire, and Elisabeth herself is implicated in the crime that unleashed it, leaving her with nowhere to turn for help except the sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn, a man she has been taught her whole life to despise, and his enigmatic demonic servant.

Notes

  • From the series record (Sorcery of Thorns): The main novel: a sorcerer-librarian setting where living grimoires can turn into monsters.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
