Overview

Sorcery of Thorns follows Elisabeth Scrivener, an apprentice librarian raised among the Great Libraries of Austermeer, a world where grimoires are sentient, sometimes dangerous books, and where the misuse of sorcery can turn a book into a monstrous Malefict. Published by Margaret Rogerson in 2019, the standalone novel follows Elisabeth after she is implicated in an act of sabotage against her own library and forced into uneasy alliance with a sorcerer she has been raised to distrust, in a setting built around an adversarial relationship between librarians and magic-users. The book was well received on release and helped establish Rogerson, previously known for An Enchantment of Ravens, as a leading voice in YA fantasy romance. A companion novella, Mysteries of Thorn Manor (2021), returns to the same characters and setting after the novel's events, extending the story without a full further installment.
