Synopsis
In the tenth Peter Grant novel, unusual livestock deaths near Aberdeen prompt Nightingale to lead a training expedition north with Abigail and Indigo, while Peter brings his own family to Scotland for what is meant to be a holiday. The trip is interrupted when a body is pulled from the sea near a bus stop by Scotland's Granite City, and Peter is drawn into investigating the death of a humanoid figure with gills. As the case unfolds, Peter and his family discover that the Scottish coast holds its own history, mythology, and criminal undercurrents, with signs that the rules governing magic, and the allegiances that come with it, work differently this far from London.
