Synopsis
Miriam is a young woman with a mysterious gift for healing, and in a Europe-like land called Adria around the year 1350 that gift has made her a fugitive. The Church hunts those it believes touched by evil, and Miriam is hurt by the religious authorities who persecute her. She is saved by elves, who heal her and begin a change in her that leaves her more than human. The novel sets out the world of Adria and the hidden elven people whose lives intersect with the human world, and it opens the sequence that later volumes carry forward across the following centuries.
