Synopsis
In San Antonio on the day of the 1891 Battle of Flowers parade, Ada Bauer, a German-American girl frustrated by a teacher who dismisses her essay on women's rights, stands over a well and wishes she lived a hundred years from now. On the same day in 1991, twelve-year-old Amber Burak, whose parents are divorcing, makes the opposite wish at the same spot. Both wishes come true and the girls trade centuries. Each finds friends, lands in the other era's children's home, and is eventually taken in by the other's parents, while learning how differently the city treated girls a century apart. Told in alternating chapters, the story follows both as they search for a way back home.
