Peni R. Griffin is an American writer born in 1961 who writes children's and young adult fiction, much of it fantasy, mystery and science fiction. She was born in the Rio Grande Valley, which she calls a technicality; her family moved to Texas when she was ten after her father was stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo. She later settled in San Antonio, where all of her novels are set. She worked as a clerk, a temporary worker, a production assistant and later an appraiser while writing. Before her first book she wrote adult fantasy and short stories, and Margaret K. McElderry Books published her first novel, Otto from Otherwhere, in 1990. Her other books include A Dig in Time (1991), Hobkin (1992), The Switching Well (1993), The Maze (1994), Vikki Vanishes (1995), Margo's House (1996) and The Ghost Sitter (2001).
