Synopsis

Sword Catcher is set in the city-state of Castellane, where Kel has been secretly raised since childhood as the body double, or Sword Catcher, for Conor Aurelian, heir to Castellane's throne, trained to take a blade or an assassin's blow meant for the prince. When a failed assassination attempt exposes cracks in the palace's security, Kel is drawn deeper into the political dangers surrounding Conor and the crown. At the same time, Lin Caster, a healer within Castellane's magically gifted but socially marginalized Ashkar community, becomes entangled in the same unfolding intrigue after treating a mysterious patient connected to the palace. As Kel and Lin's paths cross, both find themselves navigating a web of court conspiracies, hidden agendas, and the uneasy relationship between Castellane's ruling class and the Ashkar, with the security of the throne itself increasingly at stake.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Chronicles of Castellane): Adult secondary-world fantasy set in the city-state of Castellane, Cassandra Clare's first non-Shadowhunter/Magisterium continuity in this database. A third book, The Bone Conjurers, is announced but not yet published as of this research and is correctly excluded.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series The Chronicles of Castellane: position 1 of 2: next The Ragpicker King (2025)
