Synopsis
Taken, the third Alex Verus novel, settles Alex's apprentice Luna into her new role as she meets fellow young mages Anne and Variam, broadening the circle of apprentices around Alex's shop. The book shifts the series' tone toward a blend of mystery and supernatural horror, as Alex is drawn into a threat connected to the antagonist Vitus Aubuchon and finds himself facing tense, high-stakes confrontations across London, including a tense pursuit through the flats of Archway and a chase by car along the motorway. Alex must again rely on his divination to stay ahead of dangers he cannot fully see coming, while navigating the complications of mentoring three apprentices with their own tangled histories and vulnerabilities.
