Synopsis
Morgan and Eli, two Indigenous children forced away from their families and communities, are brought together in a foster home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. When the two children staple a drawing of Eli’s to a painted-over door in the attic, they accidentally open a portal to Askí, a frozen land of talking animals, where the village of Misewa will starve unless its endless winter can be brought to an end. Drawn into a quest to save Misewa, the two foster children take on a task that could change both worlds, in the opening book of a saga rooted in Cree storytelling.
