Synopsis
Twenty-one years after the second book, the Canadian protagonists have grown up and had children of their own, and two of them, ten-year-old twins Allie and Jay, come to Scotland to visit their grandfather at the Boggart's home on Loch Linnhe. The castle and its loch are under threat from William Trout, a wealthy, bullying American real-estate developer who wants to tear up the land and buildings for a luxury resort and golf course. The Boggart and his friend Nessie, from the second book, join the humans' efforts to save the place, and call up other legendary Old Things of Scotland to help frighten the developer away. Comedy, environmental anxiety and folklore blend in the trilogy's conclusion, published when its author was eighty-two.
