Synopsis

The Bone Ship's Wake, the third and final novel in the Tide Child trilogy, opens with Joron Twiner having lost his Shipwife and now commanding a black fleet from the deck of the Tide Child, driven primarily by grief and a desire for vengeance against the Hundred Isles. His pursuit of that revenge is complicated on several fronts: he is afflicted with Keyshan's Rot, a wasting illness steadily consuming his body and limiting how much time he has left, and his fleet is shrinking through attrition even as he tries to keep waging war. He is also concealing a prophecy claiming that he and an avian sorcerer known as the Windseer are together fated to destroy the world, a fate he wants no part of.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Tide Child Trilogy): New author record. A completed grimdark nautical fantasy trilogy (the 'Tide Child' bone-ships crew), per Carlos's own named grimdark theme. The Bone Ships WON the 2020 British Fantasy Award's Robert Holdstock Award for Best Fantasy Novel -- a clean, independently sourced win (Wikipedia's own Tide Child trilogy page, corroborated by the book's own current cover copy, 'Winner of the Holdstock Award for Best Fantasy Novel'), not merely a nomination.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
