Synopsis
The Bone Witch opens with Tea, a girl in the kingdom of Odalia, accidentally raising her older brother Fox from the dead at his own funeral, revealing that she is a dark asha, a bone witch gifted with the rare and feared power over death magic. Shunned by her family and community for an ability most consider unnatural, she is taken in by Mykaela, an older and more experienced bone witch, who brings her to the distant city of Kion for training in the disciplines and politics of the asha, women who wield elemental magic in service to kingdoms. The novel is framed as Tea's own account, told years later to a traveling bard, of how her gift set her on a path toward power, exile, and a war with the dead that has not yet begun.
