Synopsis
Having escaped their captors the Platters, the Clock family relocates to a quiet English village centered on a church rectory, where they reunite with relatives Hendreary, Lupy and young Timmus and meet Peagreen Overmantel, an artistic local Borrower who becomes a new ally. Settling into their new surroundings, the family tries to establish a lasting home while remaining alert to the Platters, who have not given up their pursuit and use a discarded apron of Homily's as a clue in their search. The scheming couple enlist the help of a local woman known as a finder, Lady Mullings, to try to track the family down, keeping the threat of exposure alive even as the Clocks attempt to settle in. Throughout, the family works to keep their existence hidden from most of the village's human residents, even as their kind friend Miss Menzies grows increasingly suspicious of the truth.
