Synopsis
The fourth book in the Fairyland series shifts its focus away from September to a new protagonist, a young troll named Hawthorn. Stolen from Fairyland by the Red Wind as an infant, Hawthorn is left as a changeling to be raised as a human boy in Chicago, growing up without any memory of his true nature. At around age twelve he begins to sense that something in his life does not fit, and he eventually finds a way back toward the Fairyland he was taken from as an infant. On his return he discovers the land has changed enormously since the events of the earlier books, and he becomes entangled in a rebellion led by other changelings seeking to reclaim what was taken from them. Hawthorn's journey runs in parallel to September's own developing story elsewhere in the series.
