Synopsis
The Circle, the first novel of the Engelsfors Trilogy, is set in a fictional rural Swedish town and opens with the apparent suicide of a troubled teenager, Elias Malmgren, whose body is discovered by classmates Minoo and Linnea. In the aftermath, six ordinary teenage girls at the same secondary school, including studious Minoo, popular but troubled Rebecka, bullied farm girl Anna-Karin, outgoing Vanessa, outcast Linnea, and popular bully Ida, find themselves drawn together by strange, unexplained events. They learn from the school's mysterious janitor, Nicolaus Elingius, and the principal, Adriana Lopez, who is secretly tied to a hidden magical council, that they have been chosen as witches fated to confront an otherworldly evil threatening their town. Distrustful of one another and each hiding parts of themselves, the six must come to terms with their new abilities and the danger drawing closer around them.
