Synopsis
The Clocks of Iraz is the second book of L. Sprague de Camp's Reluctant King trilogy, continuing the adventures of Jorian, the deposed and still-fugitive king of Xylar, across the fantastical land of Novaria. Having escaped his kingdom's beheading custom and undertaken a quest for the sorcerer Karadur in The Goblin Tower, Jorian finds himself drawn into new schemes and political entanglements in the city-state of Iraz, continuing the blend of picaresque adventure and dry humor that characterizes de Camp's approach to sword-and-sorcery storytelling. The novel keeps Jorian on the move as agents of Xylar and new rivals in Iraz complicate his efforts to stay free of both his old throne and the fresh troubles his skills and reputation keep attracting.
