Synopsis
In 1949, fifteen-year-old Beet MacNeill lives on Prince Edward Island, where music is the centre of her life. Her older cousin Gerry dies, and then he returns from the water soaking wet and unable to speak. Beet sets out to learn what has happened to him. Her suspicions fall on Marina Shaw, a newcomer to the island who seems tied to local stories of a shape-shifting creature of the sea. As strange events close in on the people Beet loves, she begins to understand an old evil whose roots reach back to the early nineteenth century. She must find a way to stop it, while also trying to protect a new boy she is beginning to care for.
