Synopsis
The fifth Chronicles of Amber novel opens with Corwin brooding in the library of Castle Amber before being drawn back into action as the crisis around the damaged Pattern comes to a head. With the Jewel of Judgement now in his possession, he must ride the length of the multiverse from Amber all the way to the Courts of Chaos, while his father Oberon attempts to repair the underlying Pattern that holds reality together. His brother Brand pursues him along the way, determined to seize the Jewel for his own ends, forcing Corwin to race through a succession of dangerous shadow worlds, facing both natural hazards and supernatural enemies, uncertain whether Oberon's repairs will succeed before the multiverse itself comes apart.
