Overview
Roger Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber follows the royal family of Amber, the true world, of which all others (including Earth) are Shadows, across two five-book cycles: the Corwin Cycle (1970-1978) and the Merlin Cycle (1985-1991), narrated by Corwin's son Merlin. Publication order equals internal chronological order throughout. The saga draws freely on Norse, Japanese, and Irish mythology, Arthurian legend, and real-world history, filtered through Zelazny's characteristically playful, allusive prose style, opening with Corwin waking on Earth with no memory of his royal identity and slowly reclaiming his place among Amber's scheming princes and princesses. Zelazny won six Hugo and three Nebula Awards across his career, and while the Amber novels are not individually among his most-awarded works, the series has been widely cited as directly influential: Neil Gaiman has named Zelazny the author who influenced him most, and Andrzej Sapkowski has called Zelazny his spiritual teacher, crediting Amber with helping inspire his own first novel.

Does not include the unfinished fragment "A Secret of Amber" (co-written with Ed Greenwood, published posthumously 2005 in Amberzine #12-15). Correction: the story is titled "Coming to a Cord", not "Coming to a Cusp", no source supports the latter title.
