Synopsis
The ninth Chronicles of Amber novel follows Merlin as he navigates several mysteries, including Julia's betrayal, her connection to his brother Jurt, and an unknown adversary targeting him. Merlin becomes trapped in a ghostly realm inhabited by phantom beings, where he begins to uncover his own role in a cosmic power struggle between the Pattern of Amber and the Logrus of Chaos, the two opposing sources of magical order and power that have shaped his family's destiny. Determined to understand who is truly behind the attacks on his life and what Julia's true allegiance is, Merlin is forced to piece together fragments of a much larger conspiracy that stretches across both Amber and the Courts of Chaos, testing his loyalties along the way.
