Synopsis

When her father dies in battle, fourteen-year-old Thirrin becomes Queen of the Icemark, a tiny kingdom forever caught between dangerous neighbours, its fate resting on the shoulders of one girl. The kingdom is in grave danger: its enemy lies in wait, and in the chill winter of the Icemark she has only until spring to unite the strange beasts and frightening creatures who live just outside her country. This is the story of how Thirrin Freer Strong-in-the-Arm Lindenshield, princess and intrepid warrior, rallies her country and finds extraordinary allies, vampires, Wolf-folk and, most noble of all, giant Snow Leopards, with unexpected strength in her friendship with Oskan, a young warlock, and leads them to victory with her fierce battle cry: Blood and Fire! Stuart Hill's first novel, winner of the Ottakar's Prize.
