Synopsis

Published in 1995 as part of the Lost Histories series, The Dargonesti follows Vixa, a young Qualinesti princess whose ship is swept far off course and comes to rest, unexpectedly, atop a massive kraken in open ocean. She and her surviving companions are taken in by the Dargonesti, a reclusive elven people who have made their home beneath the sea, and brought to the underwater city of Urione. Put to work helping shore up the city's defenses against dangerous giant sea creatures, Vixa becomes entangled in Dargonesti politics and the ambitions of the city's ruling queen, whose plans reach toward the surface-dwelling Silvanesti elves. Balancing loyalty to her own people against the bonds she forms underwater, Vixa must decide how far she will go to avert a looming conflict between the two elven realms.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
