Synopsis
The Daughter of Odren, a short story set in Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea universe, centers on a young woman known as Weed, the daughter of Lord Garnet, who has spent fourteen years making regular pilgrimages to a standing stone in a remote valley. There she leaves offerings and speaks to the stone, asking it to hold the memory of who her father once was and the life that was taken from him, all while she waits for the day when justice will finally be done and she might reclaim him. The story builds slowly toward the moment that long-awaited reckoning arrives, examining the corrosive patience of vengeance and the uncertain cost of finally acting on it, without settling in advance whether the outcome Weed has waited for will unfold the way she has always imagined.
