Synopsis
The third novel in the Riyria Chronicles finds the thief Royce Melborn and the ex-mercenary Hadrian Blackwater hired to protect the last surviving member of Avryn's oldest noble family, the Dulgath line, from an unknown assassin targeting her. The job takes the pair to a remote corner of southern Avryn, where they must study the household, weigh the possible suspects, and anticipate the killer's next move before it can be carried out. As Royce and Hadrian settle into their unfamiliar role as protectors rather than thieves, they find the case more complicated than a simple bodyguard assignment, with the true nature of the threat to Dulgath proving harder to pin down than expected.
