Synopsis

The ninth and final novel of the Dragon Knight series returns to Jim Eckert's life as Sir James of Malencontri, a modern man still navigating the customs, politics, and magic of an alternate fourteenth-century England he never expected to call home. As with earlier entries in the series, Jim's dual existence as a landholding baron, apprentice magician, and occasional dragon draws him into a fresh entanglement involving court intrigue and figures tied to the historical Fair Maid of Kent, forcing him once again to balance chivalric obligation against the practical demands of magic and diplomacy. Supported by his wife Angie and his long-standing circle of companions, Jim works to see the crisis through even as the series' long-running blend of medieval history and fantastical invention reaches its close.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Dragon Knight): Nine-novel portal-fantasy series (1976-2000) about Jim Eckert, a modern graduate student pulled into a parallel fantasy world and transformed into a dragon, who must navigate a mixed cast of dragons, knights and magical creatures to rescue his fiancee. Opened with a British Fantasy Award-winning novel expanded from a 1957 short story; completed with the ninth volume in 2000, before Dickson's death in 2001, no further installments planned or announced.
