Synopsis

Set five months after the events of The Dragon and the George, this fantasy novel follows Jim and Angie as they settle into life in a parallel fourteenth-century England, where Jim now holds the title of Sir James, Baron of Malencontri et Riveroak, and still occasionally shifts into his dragon form of Gorbash when circumstances demand it. Trying in earnest to be a good and responsible English lord despite his twentieth-century instincts, Jim instead finds himself drawn into a quest to rescue England's young captive prince from captivity in France, a mission that pits him against supernatural opposition as well as the ordinary hazards of medieval warfare and court politics. Balancing his duties as a landholder with the demands of magic and knighthood proves harder than Jim expected.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Dragon Knight): Nine-novel portal-fantasy series (1976-2000) about Jim Eckert, a modern graduate student pulled into a parallel fantasy world and transformed into a dragon, who must navigate a mixed cast of dragons, knights and magical creatures to rescue his fiancee. Opened with a British Fantasy Award-winning novel expanded from a 1957 short story; completed with the ninth volume in 2000, before Dickson's death in 2001, no further installments planned or announced.
