Synopsis
The third book of the Heritage of Shannara tetralogy follows Wren Ohmsford, a Rover unaware of her true heritage as an Elessedil, who receives a directive from the shade of the Druid Allanon to travel to the remote and dangerous island of Morrowindl and bring the long-vanished Elves back to civilization after more than a century of absence. Accompanied by her friend Garth, the Wing Rider Tiger Ty, and creatures such as the Splinterscat Stresa and the Tree Squeak Faun, Wren reaches the hidden Elven city of Arborlon and discovers that her own grandmother, Ellenroh Elessedil, rules there as queen. The island has become overrun by demons, and a magical artifact called the Loden, which shrinks and protects the city, is losing its power, forcing Wren and her companions to race to transport the surviving Elves back to the Westland before the island's dangers overwhelm them.
