Synopsis

The Eternal Champion introduces John Daker, an ordinary twentieth-century Londoner who is pulled through time and space to the tomb of Erekosë, a legendary hero of another version of Earth entombed for millennia. Daker gradually realizes he is the reincarnation of this long-dead warrior and is summoned by the desperate people he once served, the human kingdom of Necranal, to take up that old identity again and lead their war against the inhuman Eldren, a beautiful and seemingly monstrous race threatening to overrun humanity. As Erekosë, Daker commands humanity's forces with terrifying effectiveness, even as troubling doubts creep in about whether the war he has been called to fight, and the enemy he has been told to destroy, are truly what his human allies claim them to be.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Erekose Trilogy): John Daker, an ordinary 20th-century man, discovers he is the reincarnation of the ancient hero Erekose -- one of Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion incarnations, distinct from the already-admitted Elric Saga, Hawkmoon and Corum. Phoenix in Obsidian was retitled The Silver Warriors for its US edition (same text, not a separate work). No in-story crossover with Elric/Corum/Hawkmoon occurs within these 3 books themselves -- see the related_universes crossover entries instead, which record the meeting from Corum's own Core Canon side.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
