Synopsis
The Gilded Wolves is a 2019 young adult fantasy novel set in 1889 Paris during the world's fair, following an unlikely team of thieves and specialists assembled by Séverin Montagnet-Alarie, a hotelier and former affiliate of the secretive Order of Babel, as they race to steal a magical artifact tied to the colonized homelands several of the crew members come from. Séverin's involvement in the heist is driven by more than payment: he is pursuing his own rightful, long-denied inheritance within the Order of Babel, a hidden society of magical Houses that governs access to Forged, artifact-based magic across the city. As the crew's individual skills, and individual grudges against the Order, are drawn together for the job, their search for the artifact uncovers secrets about the Order's power that go well beyond the treasure they were hired to find.
