Roshani Chokshi is an American author born February 14, 1991, in St. Louis, Missouri, to a Filipino mother and Gujarati Indian father, and was raised Hindu, a heritage she frequently incorporates into her fantasy fiction. She studied law at the University of Georgia, citing Neil Gaiman as an influence on her decision to leave law school and pursue writing full-time after selling her first novel. She became best known for The Star-Touched Queen (2016), her debut young-adult novel, which won the 2017 Locus Award for Best First Novel and the Andre Norton Award, and for the five-book middle-grade Aru Shah series (2018-2022), whose film rights to Aru Shah and the End of Time were acquired by Paramount Pictures in 2018; the book also earned her the Georgia Author of the Year award in 2020. She also wrote The Gilded Wolves young-adult fantasy trilogy (2019-2021), which won the Southern Book Prize in 2020, and the standalone The Swan's Daughter (2025). All of her debut series novels achieved New York Times bestseller status.
