Synopsis
The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making opens the series with twelve-year-old September, who lives in Omaha, Nebraska, with her father away fighting in Europe and her mother working long hours in an aircraft factory. She is whisked away by the mysterious Green Wind astride a flying Leopard to the shores of Fairyland, where a coalition of witches recruits her to retrieve a magical spoon stolen by the Marquess, Fairyland's young and tyrannical ruler. Along her journey September gains unusual companions, including A-Through-L, a Wyverary who considers himself part wyvern and part library, and Saturday, a shy young marid, and together they face a series of strange dangers and wondrous encounters across Fairyland's many regions, as September is drawn deeper into the Marquess's schemes and begins to push back against the darker agenda underlying the Marquess's rule.
