Synopsis
Opening the fourth act of the Deverry Cycle, the Silver Wyrm, this novel follows two orphaned brothers, Neb and his younger sibling, who are forced to flee their remote farm when the Horsekin launch raids across Deverry's western border. A chance meeting with Salamander, a bard skilled in the dweomer, leads them to sanctuary at the fortress of Tieryn Cadryc, where Neb falls in love with a young woman named Branna even as the wider conflict threatening the kingdom's stability continues to close in around them. Both Neb and Branna gradually discover that they possess magical abilities of their own, and that they are opposed by enemies from a forgotten past neither of them can consciously remember, reincarnations of a struggle begun in earlier lifetimes.
