Synopsis
The Hall of the Mountain King, published in 1986, opens the Avaryan Rising saga in the kingdom of Ianon, where Mirain, a young man who claims descent from the sun god Avaryan himself, arrives to assert his place as heir to Ianon's throne. His arrival provokes immediate conflict with Moranden, the king's other son, who regards Mirain as an illegitimate rival threatening his own claim to succession, and whose supporters are unwilling to accept a newcomer's assertion of divine parentage without contest. As Mirain works to prove both his lineage and his fitness to rule amid the kingdom's political factions, the novel follows the mounting tension between the two half-brothers and the wider court forced to choose sides, setting in motion the dynastic struggle that will shape Ianon's future and the broader Avaryan Rising saga.
