Synopsis

In this sequel to The Hexologists, the magical investigators Isolde and Warren Selby take on an unusually knotty case when a famous artist dies under suspicious circumstances, only for Isolde to find herself investigating a murder that may not, strictly speaking, have actually happened. Clues at the scene shift and contradict one another even as she examines them, hinting that ordinary detective work will not be enough to make sense of a crime scene that seems to rearrange itself the longer she studies it. As the Selbys' inquiry carries them through a series of increasingly dangerous locations and forces them to bend, and occasionally break, the established rules of magic in pursuit of the truth, Isolde and Warren must risk life and limb, along with a healthy stock of hexes and magical artifacts, to unravel the tangled riddle at the heart of the case.
