Synopsis

The Iron King is the first novel in Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series. It follows sixteen-year-old Meghan Chase, an ordinary-seeming girl who discovers on her birthday that she is secretly half-fey, the daughter of the faery king Oberon, and is drawn into the treacherous world of the Nevernever when her younger brother is stolen away and replaced by a changeling. Determined to get him back, Meghan crosses into the faery realm, encountering figures drawn from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and navigating the rival Summer and Winter Courts, whose long-standing hostilities complicate her search. Her efforts to recover her brother ultimately lead her toward the Iron Realm and its ruler, the Iron King, a new and unfamiliar power born from human technology and encroaching on the older faery courts, forcing Meghan to confront dangers neither court fully understands.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Iron Fey): The original quartet, following Meghan Chase's discovery of her fae heritage and the war against the Iron Fey. This author has written several further sequel/spin-off trilogies in the same world (Call of the Forgotten, Evenfall) which are deliberately left unresearched this pass rather than guessed at;
