Synopsis
Princess Malini has been exiled by her own brother, the emperor, and confined to the Hirana, a crumbling cliffside temple that once produced sacred waters but now stands stripped of its old power, after she refused to submit to the self-immolation his religious fervor demanded of her. Priya works as a maidservant in the household of the regent who oversees the temple, carefully concealing her past as one of the few surviving temple children who lived through a brutal ritual meant to cure a magical plague. When Priya is assigned to attend the imprisoned princess, the two women -- one plotting rebellion against her brother's empire, the other guarding old secrets and old grief -- are drawn into each other's orbit.

Notes
- From the series record (The Burning Kingdoms): Core Canon = all 3 novels of the completed trilogy (Orbit, 2021-2024). No companion/Expanded Canon material found. Confirmed separate from Suri's earlier Empire of Sand / Realm of Ash duology (Books of Ambha, not admitted to this canon) -- different world, different characters, no shared continuity per sfadb's own separate awards listing for each series.
