Synopsis

Picking up after the events of The Jasmine Throne, this second Burning Kingdoms novel follows Malini and Priya as their paths diverge even as their fates stay entangled. Malini, having survived her brother's tyranny and claimed a prophecy naming her the rightful empress, sets out to seize the imperial throne of Parijatdvipa by force, rallying allies and armies to her cause. Priya, a priestess whose blood carries the power of the deathless waters, returns to her home of Ahiranya to protect it and to grapple with the dangerous magic growing within her and the land itself. As war spreads across the empire and old loyalties fracture, the two women find themselves pulled back together, their personal bond complicated by the opposing demands of conquest and survival.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Burning Kingdoms): Core Canon = all 3 novels of the completed trilogy (Orbit, 2021-2024). No companion/Expanded Canon material found. Confirmed separate from Suri's earlier Empire of Sand / Realm of Ash duology (Books of Ambha, not admitted to this canon) -- different world, different characters, no shared continuity per sfadb's own separate awards listing for each series.
