Synopsis
Set roughly a century after the events of The Broken Kingdoms, the godling Sieh, formerly a being embodying childhood and mischief, is mysteriously transformed into a mortal after encountering Arameri twins Shahar and Deka, an event that damages the underpalace of Sky and leaves Sieh needing eight years to recover. On waking, Sieh reconnects with Shahar, who now stands to inherit leadership of the Arameri family, and the two develop a growing romantic bond even as Sieh continues to age rapidly toward adulthood. Reuniting also with Shahar's scholarly twin Dekarta and encountering allies such as Hymn, Sieh becomes entangled in two intertwined mysteries: uncovering why he was stripped of his godhood in the first place, and investigating a series of assassinations targeting members of the Arameri family, all while the great gods Itempas, Yeine, and Nahadoth watch over the unfolding crisis.
