Notes
- 8 stories + a fictional scholarly Introduction, illustrated by Charles Vess. Six stories are clearly in-world (the title story features Jonathan Strange in person and is footnoted in the novel's Chapter 43; the closing story features the Raven King). One story, 'The Duke of Wellington Misplaces His Horse', is set in the village of Wall from Neil Gaiman's Stardust, out-of-universe, annotated rather than excluded; 'Antickes and Frets' is in-world by framing convention only.
Neighbouring works
Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (standalone work): position 2 of 3: previous Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (2004) · next The Wood at Midwinter (2024)
