  • World Fantasy Award (Best Novella), 2001: nominated; For the constituent story 'Mr Simonelli, or the Fairy Widower' in its original 2000 anthology publication, later collected here, award applies to the standalone publication (Dying Earth/Cugel's Saga precedent).

  • Mythopoeic Fantasy Award (Adult Literature), 2007: nominated

Notes

  • 8 stories + a fictional scholarly Introduction, illustrated by Charles Vess. Six stories are clearly in-world (the title story features Jonathan Strange in person and is footnoted in the novel's Chapter 43; the closing story features the Raven King). One story, 'The Duke of Wellington Misplaces His Horse', is set in the village of Wall from Neil Gaiman's Stardust, out-of-universe, annotated rather than excluded; 'Antickes and Frets' is in-world by framing convention only.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
