Synopsis
The Lake of Tears is the second book in the Deltora Quest series. Having recovered the first gem, the topaz, Lief, Barda, and their new companion Jasmine set out to obtain the ruby, which lies within territory dominated by the monstrous sorceress Thaegan. Along the way they free Manus, a Ralad man held captive by the Shadow Lord's Grey Guards, and press on toward the Lake of Tears, once the golden city of D'Or before Thaegan cursed it a century earlier and silenced the Ralad people who protested her transformation of their homeland. The companions must get past a bewitched bridge guardian and the deceptive siblings Jin and Jod, who are secretly Thaegan's children, as well as Soldeen, a giant sea monster that guards the lake, before they can even attempt to confront Thaegan herself and claim the gem.
