Synopsis
Gospel is the Keeper of the Leaving Room, a place all young people must pass through when they die. The young are never ready to leave; they need a moment to remember, and a Keeper to help their wispy souls along. In each Leaver’s precious four minutes, Gospel cooks them a meal made of loving memories and keeps their best memory in one of the mason jars that line her shelves. She is supposed to follow the rules: never lie, never enter another Keeper’s room, never look back at the memories she collects. But when a door opens and another Keeper, Melodee, arrives, their souls become entangled, and Gospel begins to wonder whether Keepers can feel, and fall in love, and whether there is more to her existence than keeping.
