Synopsis
In a slightly alternate London of 1983, eighteen-year-old Susan Arkshaw comes to the city to look for the father she has never met. Her search brings her into contact with Merlin, a left-handed bookseller, and his sister Vivien, a right-handed one. The booksellers are secret guardians who police the Old World, the realm of magical beings and forces, whenever it breaks into modern life. Merlin is tracking the entity that had criminals kill his mother. His hunt overlaps with Susan's, and together the three discover who Susan's father really was, while dangerous creatures and sorcery pursue them through the city.
