Synopsis
The Lighthouse at the Edge of the World, published by J.R. Dawson in 2025, is set at a lighthouse on the edge of Chicago that serves as a waystation guiding the newly deceased across the waters of Lake Michigan toward whatever comes after. Nera has spent decades watching her father tend the lighthouse and ferry souls onward, a quiet, orderly duty that begins to fail when the lighthouse itself starts to falter. The crisis deepens when a living woman named Charlie unexpectedly boards the ferryman's boat, searching among the dead for someone she has lost and never should have been able to reach this way at all. As the lighthouse's failure threatens the fragile boundary between the living and the dead, Nera is pulled from her familiar routine into a crisis that puts everything her family has maintained at risk.
