Synopsis
In 1842, thirteen-year-old Maria Merryweather is left an orphan and can no longer stay in her London home. With her governess, Miss Heliotrope, and her dog, Wiggins, she travels to the West Country of England to live with her cousin and guardian, Sir Benjamin, at the ancestral manor of Moonacre. The house, the village of Silverydew, its church, the woods and the nearby bay are all steeped in old mystery and quiet magic, and Maria soon feels she has come home. But the valley lies under the shadow of an ancient family feud and of the memory of the Moon Princess, and glimpses of a small white horse, which proves to be a unicorn, hint at its hidden history. Maria resolves to discover the cause of the old quarrel and to restore peace to Moonacre.
