Synopsis
Set in the world of Raybearer, this standalone novel follows Small Sade, a young woman with an unusual appearance who seeks work as a maid in the magical city of Oluwan. Sade is secretly a Curse Eater, able to alter people's fates through the act of cleaning their homes, a gift she hopes will help her build a better life in the city despite warnings about the risks of her talent. Her plans are upended when she accidentally binds her fate to the Crocodile, a powerful and feared deity with his own hidden, revolutionary agenda. As Sade takes a position at a prestigious inn to establish herself among Oluwan's elite, she must navigate her growing connection to the Crocodile and the secrets of her own past, while the story examines class, ambition, and what the city's overlooked servants and workers deserve.
Where it sits

Notes
- A standalone companion novel 'set in the world of Raybearer' (publisher's own description) rather than a direct sequel to Tarisai's story -- registered Expanded Canon, not folded into the 2-book Core Canon duology, per the Rivers of London side-novella precedent.
