Synopsis
The Marches King, published by Kaoru Kurimoto in 1979, is the fifth Guin Saga novel translated into English, continuing directly from the fourth volume's crossing of the Nospherus badlands. Guin seeks aid for the beleaguered Sem tribes from the reclusive Lagon giants, but their support comes at a price: he must personally defeat the Lagon's strongest warrior to earn it. While Guin fights for this alliance, the fragile coalition of Sem tribes back at camp begins to fracture from within, leaving his companions exposed when Mongauli scouts discover their position and report it back to the ruthless Lady Amnelis. With his allies now in direct danger of being trapped and destroyed, Guin must race to return to them with whatever reinforcements he has managed to secure before the Mongauli army can close the trap.

The full Japanese-language saga (130 volumes by Kurimoto herself before her 2009 death, plus further volumes by other authors) runs far beyond this Core Canon; the untranslated remainder is a documented future research lead, not part of this admission.
