Synopsis

The Mask of Mirrors is the first novel in the Rook & Rose trilogy, set in the city of Nadezra, where the ruling Liganti nobility governs over the native Vraszenian population, creating deep social and political divisions. Ren, a street-raised con artist, adopts the false identity of a noble heir, Renata Viraudax, in order to infiltrate the declining Traementis family and secure both her own fortune and her sister's future, only to find herself developing real attachment to the family she means to deceive. At the same time, a dangerous drug called ash is being spread through the city, drawing people into a lethal dream world, and suspicion for the deaths it causes falls on a powerful member of the ruling council.
